Nigerian lawyer Deji Adeyanju criticized Burna Boy for gifting $30,000 to a man linked to Cubana Chief Priest, calling it clout-chasing. Adeyanju accused Burna Boy of neglecting his impoverished family while sparking debates on celebrity philanthropy.

Deji Adeyanju, a Nigerian lawyer, criticized Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy for gifting $30,000 to a man alleged to be connected to socialite Cubana Chief Priest. The gesture, which occurred amidst an online clash between Burna Boy and the socialite, was perceived by some as an act of clout-chasing.

Adeyanju accused Burna Boy of neglecting impoverished members of his extended family while making a publicized donation. He wrote, “The person that gave $30k for clout has more poor people in his extended family than those in Chief Priest’s family. Giving money to some folks is waste.” Cubana Chief Priest, however, clarified that the recipient of Burna Boy’s generosity is not his blood relative.

The incident sparked widespread debate on social media. Some users criticized Burna Boy’s actions, deeming it clout-driven and suggesting the funds could have been directed toward more impactful causes, such as orphanages. Others defended the artist, arguing that helping others, regardless of intent, demonstrates generosity and creates growth opportunities.

One user remarked, “Helping others should never be reduced to clout-chasing. A $30k gift to change someone’s life reflects generosity.” Another questioned societal double standards, stating, “We preach kindness, but when it’s family, it becomes entitlement?”
