Activist Deji Adeyanju criticized the PDP for expelling Ikenga Ugochinyere, accusing the party of hypocrisy while retaining Nyesom Wike. He described the PDP as a "dead party" influenced by APC sympathizers. The controversy highlights internal divisions in Nigeria’s opposition, casting doubts on the PDP's commitment to unity and reform.
Human rights activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following its expulsion of Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a House of Representatives member representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State. Ugochinyere, who also serves as the spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), was expelled for alleged gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities, as stated in a letter signed by the Ideato LGA PDP chairman and secretary.
Adeyanju, responding to the decision via social media, condemned the move, accusing the PDP of hypocrisy for retaining Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, despite his controversial actions within the party. He referred to the PDP as "a dead party awaiting funeral rites" and claimed that the party is being influenced by All Progressives Congress (APC) sympathizers.
The PDP's decision was based on a disciplinary committee's report citing Ugochinyere’s alleged misconduct under Section 57 of the party’s constitution. However, Adeyanju argued that Ugochinyere’s expulsion highlighted deeper issues within the party’s leadership and questioned its commitment to internal democracy.
