Dele Momodu urges President Bola Tinubu to preserve Nigeria’s democracy amid growing concerns over the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the dissolution of the state assembly. Momodu warns that Tinubu's actions are fostering dictatorship, risking Nigeria's democratic future and undermining public trust.

In a powerful plea to President Bola Tinubu, Dele Momodu, the respected publisher of Ovation Magazine, warned that Nigeria's democracy was at risk. During an interview on Channels Television, Momodu, a prominent member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed his concern over the recent suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the dissolution of the state’s assembly.

Momodu, who was a staunch advocate for democracy during Nigeria’s military era, stated that he and many others who fought for the country's democratic values were "embarrassed" by the current administration’s actions.

Momodu accused Tinubu of heading the nation towards authoritarianism, calling the president's actions “worse than dictatorship.” He criticized the move as an effort to intimidate opposition leaders and governors into supporting Tinubu’s re-election campaign for 2027. Highlighting the president's past pro-democracy contributions, Momodu urged Tinubu to uphold the principles of democracy that were successfully fostered by past leaders like Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.

The suspension of political figures in Rivers, he argued, was part of a disturbing pattern of crises threatening the stability of Nigerian democracy. Momodu pleaded for Tinubu to respect democratic norms and refrain from actions that could undermine the country's hard-won freedoms.
