Delta State College of Nursing has queried student Osato Edobor for sharing a viral video of colleagues humorously rejecting First Lady Remi Tinubu as “our mother.” The school threatens disciplinary action, but officials claim the video was misrepresented. The incident has sparked debate on social media.

Delta State College of Nursing, Agbor, has issued a query to a student, Osato Edobor, over her involvement in a viral video where students seemingly rejected First Lady Remi Tinubu as “our mother.” The school management has also threatened disciplinary action, including possible expulsion.

The video, which surfaced on Wednesday, showed students at an event in Asaba responding playfully to a song about the First Lady. While some clapped and danced, others humorously echoed the lyrics. However, the college accused Edobor of recording and posting the video on her TikTok page, violating school disciplinary codes.

The query, signed by Provost Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, states that Edobor engaged in a “malicious act” by recording and sharing an “unofficial response” to a song welcoming the First Lady during her visit to Delta State. She has been given 24 hours to respond to the query.

Meanwhile, Delta State government officials have attempted to downplay the controversy. Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, stated that the video was taken out of context. He claimed the nurses were initially welcoming and enthusiastic about the First Lady’s visit but were disappointed when they realized the medical kits distributed were only for midwives, not student nurses.

He also emphasized that Mrs. Tinubu did not visit the School of Nursing in Agbor, countering online narratives suggesting a confrontation took place on campus.

The incident has sparked social media debates, with some Nigerians criticizing the school’s response, arguing that students should not be punished for expressing themselves. Others defended the First Lady, calling for respect towards public officials.

As discussions continue, Edobor’s fate remains uncertain, with the school expected to decide on her disciplinary action soon.
