A 17-year-old student, Samuel Onyeme, was allegedly beaten and locked in a dog cage for visiting his female classmate in Delta State. The incident occurred when Samuel, a student at Redeemers International High School, visited his classmate, Anastasia Celestine, at her home.
According to Samuel’s mother, he was attacked by Celestine’s father and two sons, dragged into their compound, and beaten with wooden planks. He was then confined in a dog cage. The assault escalated when Samuel's sister, Jessica, was also attacked while trying to get help. A family friend contacted a human rights organization, which alerted the police, and Samuel was rescued around 10:00 pm.
Human rights activist Victor Ojei condemned the act as barbaric and filed a petition to the police for investigation and prosecution of the Celestine family for kidnapping, unlawful detention, and attempted murder. Samuel is receiving treatment for his injuries at Asaba Specialist Hospital. Authorities are yet to confirm the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
