Dino Melaye, former Kogi West senator, has accused PDP leaders Iliya Damagum, Samuel Anyanwu, and Umar Bature of destroying the party through commercialization and privatization. His remarks come amid ongoing internal conflicts within the PDP, raising concerns about its future stability and unity as it approaches upcoming elections.

Dino Melaye, the former senator representing Kogi West, has made serious allegations against the current leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing acting national chair Iliya Damagum, national secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and national organizing secretary Umar Bature of leading the party to its demise. In a scathing post on his X account on Saturday, Melaye asserted that the trio has “commercialized and privatized” the PDP, resulting in its current state of disarray.

“The end of the road for PDP as Damagum, Bature, and Anyanwu irredeemably destroyed the party,” Melaye declared. He emphasized the urgent need to address the alleged commercialization of the PDP, lamenting that the party has become “once upon a time.”

Damagum has held the acting chair position since March 28, 2023, following a court order that removed former chair Iyorchia Ayu from leadership. Ayu, a former senate president, faced suspension by his ward in Benue State due to alleged anti-party activities. His ousting was further solidified when he withdrew a lawsuit contesting his removal.

Melaye’s comments highlight the ongoing turmoil within the PDP and underscore the challenges faced by the party as it navigates internal conflicts and strives to regain its footing in Nigerian politics. The fallout from these accusations may have significant implications for the party's future and its ability to unite ahead of upcoming elections.
