PDP Chairman Umar Damagum criticizes Senator Dino Melaye for his lack of commitment during the Kogi gubernatorial election, revealing that Melaye didn’t vote for himself. Damagum holds Melaye partly responsible for the party's issues, especially after Melaye's suspension for alleged anti-party activities further strained internal relations.

In a recent interview, People's Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum called out Senator Dino Melaye for his conduct during the recent Kogi gubernatorial election. Damagum revealed that despite running as the PDP candidate, Melaye failed to vote for himself in the election. This, according to the chairman, reflects a lack of commitment and responsibility towards the party.

Damagum emphasized that Melaye’s actions have negatively impacted the party's image. He noted that while electoral outcomes can vary, candidates must represent the party with integrity, even in defeat. The PDP Chairman also referenced Melaye's earlier remarks, where the senator called the PDP a "once upon a time party," attributing part of the party’s challenges to Melaye’s attitude.

Melaye’s suspension from the PDP for alleged anti-party activities has further deepened divisions within the party. Damagum’s statement underscores the tension between party leadership and Melaye, raising questions about loyalty and the future direction of the PDP as it faces internal struggles.

The controversy highlights the broader challenges the PDP is facing, particularly in Kogi State, as the party works to rebuild and unite ahead of future elections.
