Dino Melaye mocks Yahaya Bello's remand in Kuje prison following his arrest in a money laundering case. The ex-Kogi governor was accused of laundering ₦110 billion. Melaye had predicted this outcome six years ago. The case has drawn attention as the trial continues into the new year.
Former Nigerian senator Dino Melaye has reacted to the recent ruling by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, which ordered the remand of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello in Kuje Correctional Centre. This decision came after Bello was accused of being involved in a ₦110 billion money laundering scheme, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) bringing the case against him.
Justice Maryann Anenih, who presided over the case, adjourned the hearing until January 29 and 30, and February 25 and 27 of the upcoming year. During this period, Bello will remain in custody, pending the outcome of his bail application.
Dino Melaye, a vocal critic of Bello, took to social media to express his satisfaction with the ruling. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Melaye stated that he had predicted Bello's downfall six years ago. He wrote, “Six years ago, I predicted Yahaya Bello would end up in prison. Today, he will be spending Christmas in Kuje prison. All powers belong to God.”
The former lawmaker’s comments came as a reminder of his longstanding opposition to Bello's administration. Melaye's post gained attention as the trial of the former governor progressed, with many awaiting the next stages of this high-profile legal battle.
