In response to the escalating security challenges faced by Katsina State, Governor Dikko Radda has called upon residents to take proactive measures in defending themselves against bandit attacks. The governor emphasized the need for immediate action during an extensive emergency security meeting held on Friday at the Government House in Katsina.
The meeting, attended by security chiefs, leaders of paramilitary agencies, and prominent traditional rulers from Katsina and Daura, alongside senior government officials, sought to address not only the surge in insecurity but also pressing issues like food shortages and poverty within the state.
Governor Radda underscored the urgency of reviewing the security situation, finding effective solutions, and addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by the state. In addition to insecurity, concerns were raised about the rising cost of food and hunger among the population.
During the meeting, Governor Radda expressed the state government's willingness to support any community that organizes itself for self-defense. He outlined plans for training and logistical provision, emphasizing that the government is fully prepared to assist communities in tackling security challenges.
Furthermore, Governor Radda revealed that the state government is considering the establishment of a task force to address both rising food prices and insecurity. He assured the people of swift government action, intending to avoid the kind of riots witnessed in Kano and Niger states from extending to Katsina State.
