In August 2024, Nigeria's domestic airfares rose significantly to an average of N123,700.14, reflecting a 25.51% increase from July and a 56.56% increase from the previous year. Regional variations were noted, with Niger recording the highest fares, while bus and motorcycle transport costs also experienced fluctuations.

In August 2024, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported a significant rise in domestic airfares in Nigeria, with the average ticket price reaching N123,700.14. This marked a sharp increase of 25.51% compared to July. Year-on-year, fares surged by 56.56%, up from N79,011.38 in August 2023. The highest average ticket prices were recorded in Niger at N129,575.21, followed closely by Abuja at N129,442.67. In contrast, Zamfara had the lowest fare at N102,665.89.

The report also highlighted regional differences in airfare, noting that the south-east experienced the highest average fare at N125,640.19, while the north-west had the lowest at N121,957.18. Additionally, the NBS provided insights into bus fares, revealing a decrease in average city bus fares, which dropped by 7.77% to N869.35. Meanwhile, intercity bus fares increased slightly by 0.59% to N7,159.00.

Motorcycle transport also saw a rise in fares, averaging N524.22, reflecting an 8.46% increase from July. Waterway transport fares increased by 3.30%, with an average cost of N1,449.34. These statistics underline the ongoing trends in transportation costs across Nigeria, impacting the daily lives of commuters and travelers alike.
