An unidentified driver, being pursued by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers, collided with two Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) workers stationed at their duty post by the roadside. The resulting fatalities triggered a spontaneous demonstration as outraged passersby and motorists protested the tragic killing of the street sweepers. Responding to the escalating situation, security agents, including the police, arrived at the scene, employing tear gas to disperse the protesters and restore order.
LAWMA, in an official statement, confirmed the untimely death of the two sanitation workers and expressed commitment to collaborating with security agencies to identify and prosecute the culpable driver, whose vehicle bears the registration number EPE 984 DV.
