To ease the economic struggles faced by many Nigerians, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has initiated a program to distribute 4,800 bags of rice to vulnerable residents in Lagos State. This initiative, which is a collaborative effort with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, was formally launched at the Lagos House in Ikeja and was represented by Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State governor’s wife.
At the event, Mrs. Tinubu stressed the significance of this initiative in offering support to those severely impacted by the current economic conditions. Of the total rice bags, 3,000 will be distributed in the first phase to various at-risk groups, with plans for subsequent distributions to include additional beneficiaries.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu described the initiative as part of the Renewed Hope program, aimed at improving the living conditions for vulnerable families and supporting the economic reforms implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration. She pointed out that many elderly individuals have already received assistance through this program.
The beneficiaries, which include orphans and widows, expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the support. Alhaja Memunatu Ajao, the President of the National Council of Women Society (NCWS) in Lagos State, conveyed appreciation on behalf of the recipients, emphasizing the positive effect this aid will have on their daily lives.
Additionally, Mr. Robert Osuji from the Spinal Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria thanked the First Lady for the initiative and encouraged further assistance for their organization, underscoring the ongoing need for comprehensive support in light of the nation's economic difficulties.
