Thieves invaded the Celestial Church of Christ, Testimony Parish, Oyo State, stealing two cows worth nearly ₦2 million meant for its harvest celebration. The theft, linked to an incomplete perimeter fence, shocked members, highlighting growing insecurity. Despite the loss, the church held its harvest service as planned.

Less than a week before the ninth Adult Harvest Thanksgiving Service at the Celestial Church of Christ, Testimony Parish in Egbeda, Oyo State, thieves broke into the church premises and stole two large cows valued at nearly ₦2 million. The animals were intended for the celebration, scheduled for November 17, 2024.

The theft occurred last Saturday night after church leaders had retired for the evening. Committee members discovered the missing cows the following morning, shocked by the brazen act. Church leader Oluso Ayo confirmed the incident, revealing that the tethered animals were untied and taken, leaving behind footprints as the only trace.

One church member expressed dismay, stating, “If thieves can target a church, where else is safe in this country?” Another lamented that the incident highlighted the worsening security situation in Nigeria.

The church shared the news on its X account, appealing for public support and prayers for the recovery of the stolen cows. Parish Shepherd Prophet Rotimi Agunbiade Temitope confirmed the theft during a phone call, noting that the church’s incomplete perimeter fence may have enabled the crime.

Despite the setback, the church successfully held its harvest event as planned. Work on fortifying the church’s perimeter fence has since resumed to prevent future incidents.
