Edo Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa has clarified that Cyril Oshiomhole, son of former governor Adams Oshiomhole, was appointed Commissioner for Health based on merit, not nepotism. Idahosa revealed that Adams Oshiomhole opposed the nomination, highlighting Cyril’s extensive medical training and qualifications as the key reasons for his selection.

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, has dismissed allegations of nepotism following the appointment of Cyril Oshiomhole, son of former governor Adams Oshiomhole, as the state’s Commissioner for Health. Addressing the controversy during an interview on Channels Television, Idahosa revealed that Adams Oshiomhole himself opposed his son's nomination.

"This decision was solely based on competence," Idahosa stated, emphasizing that Cyril's selection was not influenced by his father. He highlighted Governor Godwin Obaseki’s vision for Edo State as the driving force behind the appointment, noting that Cyril’s extensive qualifications in medicine, both from Nigeria and the United States, made him the best candidate for the role.

Idahosa clarified that Cyril Oshiomhole is a highly trained medical professional whose educational background and experience uniquely qualify him to lead the state’s health sector. "The fact that he is Oshiomhole’s son does not disqualify him from a role he is fully capable of handling," he added, stressing that merit, not family connections, informed the decision.

The Deputy Governor concluded by assuring the public that Cyril's appointment aligns with the government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Edo State. He urged critics to focus on Cyril's expertise and potential contributions rather than his family ties.

This statement seeks to dispel the perception of favoritism, reaffirming the state government’s dedication to professionalism and transparency in public service appointments.
