Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo's asset recovery committee has uncovered over 200 missing government vehicles from former Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration. Within 24 hours, three vehicles were recovered, including a bus holding palliatives. The committee urges whistleblowers to provide leads and warns against misappropriating public assets.

Governor Monday Okpebholo's administration in Edo State has launched an investigation into missing government assets, with over 200 vehicles reportedly unaccounted for from the tenure of former Governor Godwin Obaseki. The asset recovery committee, chaired by Kelly Okungbowa, made immediate progress, recovering three vehicles within 24 hours of its inauguration.

Speaking in Benin City, Okungbowa announced the recovery of one Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses from a private residence. Startlingly, one of the buses contained palliatives, including bags of garri and rice, which were intended for public distribution during Obaseki’s administration.

Okungbowa appealed to the public for more information on the whereabouts of other missing vehicles, assuring potential whistleblowers of significant rewards. He emphasized that government property should not be appropriated for private use, urging former officials and private citizens in possession of the vehicles to return them within 48 hours.

The committee plans to expand its search based on credible intelligence and has pledged to work within legal boundaries to recover the assets. Okungbowa commended the cooperation of security agencies in supporting the operation, stating there has been no resistance so far.

He highlighted the committee's determination to fulfill its mandate and expressed optimism about retrieving additional vehicles in the coming days. “These assets belong to the people of Edo State, and we are committed to ensuring their return,” he affirmed.
