Edo State Government has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to return government vehicles allegedly in private hands. Led by Kelly Okungbowa, the assets recovery committee aims to retrieve vehicles, including those sold from the defunct Edo Line transport company. Failure to comply will lead to legal action.

The Edo State Government has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to Asue Ighodalo, the PDP candidate in the last governorship election, and other party supporters to return government vehicles still in their possession. This follows the establishment of an assets recovery committee by Governor-elect Monday Okpebholo.

The committee, led by Kelly Okungbowa, is tasked with recovering government assets, including vehicles allegedly still held by private individuals. Okungbowa revealed that some of these vehicles, previously owned by the now-defunct Edo Line transport company, were found in a spare parts market in Benin City. He emphasized the significant cost of purchasing new vehicles and urged the return of these assets, stressing that they belong to the people of Edo State.

The committee also identified other officials from the previous administration who are suspected of retaining government vehicles. Okungbowa warned that if the vehicles are not returned within the given timeframe, the government will take further action. The Governor-elect’s campaign had included promises to revamp the state’s transport system, but this initiative has been hindered by the disappearance of several vehicles. The government is committed to recovering these assets for public use and ensuring accountability, as Okungbowa appealed to former officials to comply with the law.
