Market women in Benin City have taken to the streets to demand justice for Ugiagbe Success Izekor, a 38-year-old trader allegedly murdered by her husband, Kelvin Izekor. The tragic incident occurred on February 22, 2025, at their home on Upper Mission Road, just eight months after their wedding.
According to reports, Success, who was four months pregnant, was stabbed in the neck while lying in bed. The Edo State Police confirmed that an angry mob nearly attacked the suspect before he was taken into custody. Protesters from the Ikpoba Hill Market Women Association, holding placards with various messages, expressed outrage over rising cases of domestic violence.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Mrs. Odion Asemota alleged that Kelvin’s mother was making efforts to secure his release, further intensifying community anger. She also claimed that after killing his wife, Kelvin went to her shop the next day, took her business money, and even attempted to dispose of her body secretly before being caught by neighbors.
Success’ sister, Mrs. Ugiagbe Iziegbe, revealed that the deceased had suffered consistent abuse throughout her marriage. She urged both state and federal authorities to ensure that Kelvin faces the full weight of the law.
