Tragedy struck in Edo State when a campaign convoy belonging to Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, was involved in a fatal accident that claimed the lives of five individuals. The incident occurred on Thursday along Warrake Road in Uzebba, Owan West Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that one of the vehicles in Okpebholo's convoy collided with a Toyota Camry, which was carrying five passengers, including the driver. All occupants of the Camry were killed in the crash. They were reportedly returning home after attending a burial ceremony. Among the deceased was a young man identified as Emmanuel Edionwe, whose family expressed deep sorrow over the loss. A relative shared, “We are devastated beyond words. Emmanuel was a good, easy-going boy who should not have died.”
The bodies of the victims have been taken to the mortuary at Edo State University, Uzaurie, in Etsako West LGA. Additionally, the sole survivor of the accident is in critical condition at Irrua Specialist Hospital. The Edo sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Cyril Mathew, has been monitoring the situation. In a gesture of support, a delegation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) plans to visit the victims' families to offer condolences. This tragic incident highlights the dangers associated with road travel, particularly during campaign activities.
