Nigerian Afrobeat artist David Adeleke, known as Davido, has expressed his interest in the ongoing Edo State gubernatorial election due to personal ties. In a recent post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, he shared that his mother hails from Edo State and conveyed his frustration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Davido stated, “My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election,” highlighting the significance of community involvement in the electoral process. He criticized INEC, labeling it as “the most dangerous institution in Nigeria,” and called on Edo residents to actively monitor the electoral process to ensure transparency.

He raised concerns about the potential for voter manipulation, stating, “Make them hungry, then make them sell their votes to survive,” and urged INEC to extend the voting period to accommodate all eligible voters. His comments reflect widespread frustration among Nigerians regarding electoral integrity and the need for improvement in the system.

The artist also reminded citizens that all eyes will be on the upcoming governorship election in Osun State in 2026, urging INEC to rectify its practices in light of the issues faced in Edo. Davido's passionate remarks underscore the role public figures can play in shaping political discourse and encouraging civic engagement during pivotal election periods.
