Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki visited the INEC Collation Centre to seek clarity on the election process after communication issues with the Resident Electoral Commissioner. His visit aimed to ensure transparency in the collation of results, ultimately prompting INEC to confirm the resumption of the process

In the early hours of September 22, 2024, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki visited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Collation Centre in Benin City, seeking clarity on the ongoing election process. His visit was prompted by growing concerns over communication issues and transparency surrounding the collation of results.

Obaseki expressed frustration over his failed attempts to reach the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Edo, Anugbum Onuoha. At approximately 1:00 AM, he received reports indicating that the coalition process had been moved to INEC’s headquarters, alongside claims that agents from the People's Progressive Party (PPP) were being denied access. With no response from the REC, Obaseki felt compelled to investigate the situation personally.

Upon his arrival around 2:00 AM, the governor noted the absence of any active collation process and again encountered difficulties in getting information from INEC officials. His concerns were further amplified after discussions with Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba, who facilitated a meeting between the governor and INEC officials.

Obaseki underscored the necessity for INEC to keep the public informed about any changes in the electoral process. Ultimately, following his insistence, INEC released a statement at 5:00 AM, confirming that the collation would resume at 10:00 AM. The governor's visit highlights the critical importance of transparency and effective communication in Nigeria's electoral processes.
