In a recent development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed significant progress in the ongoing investigation involving the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, and the former chief executive officer of the now-suspended National Social Investment Programme Authority (NSIPA), Halima Shehu.
The EFCC, led by executive chairman Ola Olukoyede, revealed that they have recovered a staggering N30 billion for the Federal Government. Moreover, the agency has placed 50 bank accounts under scrutiny as part of the probe. President Bola Tinubu suspended both Edu and Shehu about three months ago over allegations of financial malfeasance, subsequently tasking the EFCC with the investigation.
Olukoyede emphasized the complexity of the case, urging patience from Nigerians as they diligently follow due process. He underscored the meticulous nature of the investigation, highlighting the need to explore various leads and discoveries. Olukoyede assured the public of the EFCC's commitment to fighting corruption and reiterated the importance of allowing the investigative process to unfold properly.
The revelations, outlined in the EFCC's monthly e-magazine, EFCCAlert, signify a significant step forward in the pursuit of accountability and transparency within Nigeria's governance framework.
