The EFCC has summoned Nigerien groom Ibrahim Mohammad and guests for spraying naira and dollar bills at his wedding in Kano, which violated currency regulations. The incident, initially linked to another wedding, sparked a public backlash, prompting the EFCC to take action against those involved.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Nigerien national Ibrahim Mohammad and other individuals involved in an incident of alleged naira abuse at a wedding in Kano. The incident, which went viral after a video showed guests spraying naira notes, has drawn significant attention and backlash.
The EFCC responded swiftly, with its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, stating to clarify the situation. Initially, the incident was mistakenly attributed to the wedding of Fauziya Danjuma Goje, daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje. However, investigations revealed that the naira abuse occurred at the wedding of Amina Babagana Zannah, daughter of Hajara Seidu Haruna, the CEO of Hafsat Jewellery Enterprise. The groom, Ibrahim Mohammad, hails from Niger Republic, and the naira and dollar bills were reportedly sprayed by his family members during the celebration.
EFCC emphasized its commitment to enforcing currency regulations and vowed to take appropriate action against any violators, regardless of their status or nationality. The commission also sought to ensure that no innocent individuals were wrongfully accused, highlighting the importance of vigilance in preventing currency misuse.
The commission’s swift action demonstrates its resolve to uphold the country’s economic policies while raising public awareness about the dangers of naira abuse and dollarization. EFCC continues to prioritize its campaign to protect Nigeria’s currency and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
