The Super Eagles have clinched their spot in the 2025 AFCON, maintaining an unbeaten record in the qualifiers, much to the satisfaction of caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen and captain William Ekong. Playing in Abidjan, Nigeria rallied from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw against Benin, ultimately topping Group D with 11 points after five games. The match saw Benin take an early lead, but a second-half header from Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen equalized the score, cementing Nigeria’s dominant group finish.

Following the game, Coach Eguavoen praised the team’s resilience, emphasizing their determination to qualify without a single loss. “Our goal was to win or, at the very least, secure a draw,” he shared, highlighting the squad's consistent performance and skill. Captain Ekong echoed these sentiments, describing the match result as fair and attributing Benin’s goal to an unfortunate positional gap while commending Osimhen’s effort in the equalizer.

Nigeria will host Rwanda in Uyo on Monday for their final qualifying match. While their AFCON place is now secured, the Super Eagles remain focused on concluding their campaign on a high note and sustaining their unbeaten streak as they prepare for Morocco 2025.
