EKEDC has accused military personnel of invading its substation and abducting workers over a power outage linked to an upgrade at the Agbara TCN facility. The abductees were allegedly assaulted before release. This follows a similar IKEDC invasion. The case has been reported to authorities for investigation.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has accused soldiers of forcefully entering its substation in Badagry and abducting two employees due to a power outage. According to EKEDC, the military personnel, reportedly from the 15th Field Engineer Regiment, stormed the facility around 1:00 AM on March 14.
Babajide Lasaki, EKEDC’s general manager of corporate communications, stated that the power outage resulted from an upgrade at the Agbara Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) facility. He noted that the company had already informed the barracks’ commanding officer about the situation before the incident occurred.
The two abducted employees—a substation operator and a security officer—were allegedly assaulted before being released later that morning. EKEDC confirmed that no infrastructure was damaged but has since reported the incident to the police and military authorities in Abuja.
This comes just days after Nigerian Air Force personnel allegedly attacked the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) office on March 6, following a power disconnection at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Lagos. These repeated confrontations between security agencies and power firms have sparked concerns over the safety of workers and critical infrastructure.
