Ekiti State is in mourning following the death of Hon Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, the Chief Judge, who succumbed to injuries sustained from a court building collapse. Justice Adeyeye passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, as confirmed by reliable sources in Ado Ekiti.

The tragic incident occurred on July 12, 2023, when a wall of the state high court complex fell on him while he was in his office, leaving him with serious injuries. Since then, his health has deteriorated significantly. While no official announcement has been made regarding his passing, the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Ekiti State expressed their condolences, stating their profound sorrow and extending prayers for strength to his family and the people of Ekiti during this difficult time.

Justice Adeyeye, who was born in 1960 in Araromi Ugbesi, began his legal career in 1986 as a state counsel in the former Ondo State's Civil Service. Following the creation of Ekiti State in 1996, he joined the Ekiti State Judiciary Service Commission and was appointed to the High Court in 2002. Throughout his esteemed career, he also participated in various election petition tribunals. The chairperson of FIDA Ekiti, Oyinade Olatunbosun, confirmed his passing and noted that a formal statement would be released soon, acknowledging the significant loss to both the judiciary and the community.
