Nasir El-Rufai blasts President Tinubu’s administration, labeling it Nigeria’s most corrupt and dishonest government. Citing false security claims and rising insecurity, El-Rufai distances himself from federal leadership, despite backing Tinubu in 2023. His comments have sparked major political and public reaction ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a rare and blistering critique from within the ruling class, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai has sharply condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of overseeing what he called the “most dishonest and corrupt” era in Nigeria’s democratic history.

Speaking in an interview that has quickly gained traction nationwide, El-Rufai accused the federal government of relying heavily on misinformation—particularly concerning the country’s deteriorating security. He challenged the administration’s claims of progress, pointing to the continued activities of infamous criminal networks in northern states such as Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto.

“The truth is catching up,” El-Rufai said, suggesting the government is out of touch with realities on the ground. “They parade false victories while entire communities remain under siege.”

Although once a prominent ally during Tinubu’s 2023 campaign, El-Rufai was keen to distance himself from the current leadership, saying his record in Kaduna should be judged separately. “I served my state. I was never a part of this federal arrangement. Let my work speak for itself,” he stated.

The comments have ignited controversy both within and outside political circles. Critics accuse El-Rufai of turning against the system he once championed, while others praise his blunt honesty.

With the 2027 elections slowly coming into focus, El-Rufai’s remarks may signal deeper cracks within the ruling APC and mark the beginning of a realignment in Nigeria’s political dynamics.
