Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai says his support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections was not for personal gain but for the country and APC. Responding to criticism, he stated that recent political tensions reflect human nature, insisting he has moved on while others struggle with their conscience.

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has addressed speculations surrounding his support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections, stating that he did so out of principle and not for personal benefits.

El-Rufai was one of the key Northern governors in the All Progressives Congress (APC) who advocated for a Southern candidate to succeed former President Muhammadu Buhari. His endorsement played a role in Tinubu securing the party’s nomination and eventually winning the election.

However, recent political developments suggest a strained relationship between El-Rufai and Tinubu’s administration. This has led to heated exchanges between the former governor and some of the president’s allies on social media.

A user on X, @realYusufTukur, alleged that Tinubu and his supporters initially praised El-Rufai when they needed his backing but later downplayed his role in the election. Responding to the claim, El-Rufai dismissed any notion that he expected rewards for his political stance, emphasizing that his support was for the greater good of the country and the party.

“We acted in the best interest of Nigeria, with no expectations. The unfolding events are just part of life, and we have moved on,” he wrote on X.

El-Rufai’s comments have fueled further debate, with some questioning the growing rift within the APC and its possible impact on governance.
