The Kaduna State House of Assembly has raised concerns over alleged "subtle threat messages" directed at Speaker Yusuf Liman by Bello el-Rufai, a federal lawmaker and the son of former Governor Nasir el-Rufai.
This development follows the establishment of a committee by the assembly to investigate the state's finances during Nasir el-Rufai's tenure from 2015 to 2023.
According to Suraj Bamalli, the media aide to the Kaduna speaker, Bello el-Rufai took to social media to express disdain for the assembly and issued what were perceived as threats following the establishment of the investigative committee.
Bamalli alleges that Bello also sent insulting and threatening messages to Speaker Liman via WhatsApp.
The screenshots of these tweets and messages have circulated widely, raising concerns among Kaduna citizens. Bamalli described the behavior as "disheartening" for a federal lawmaker and accused Bello of attempting to obstruct legislative duties.
However, the Kaduna State House of Assembly remains resolute in its commitment to serving the people without fear or favor. Bamalli emphasized that threats and intimidation, even from federal lawmakers, will not deter the assembly from its pursuit of justice and accountability.
As tensions rise, Kaduna residents are closely watching how the situation unfolds, with many hoping for a resolution that upholds the integrity of the legislative process and promotes transparency in governance.
