Hadiza el-Rufai, wife of former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, confronted their son, Bashir, after he criticized President Bola Tinubu's media team. Bashir’s remarks followed Obasanjo’s comments on Nigeria’s 2023 elections, prompting a public debate on governance and family tensions over the current administration’s performance.

Hadiza el-Rufai, wife of the former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, recently confronted their son, Bashir, over his criticism of President Bola Tinubu's administration. The exchange took place on social media platform X after Bashir commented on the presidency’s media team, calling them “ineffectual clowns” for attacking former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Bashir’s criticism came after Obasanjo described the 2023 elections as a "travesty" and suggested reforms to restore credibility to Nigeria’s electoral process.

Obasanjo’s comments had angered the presidency, with Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu's spokesperson, firing back, accusing Obasanjo of overseeing Nigeria’s most fraudulent election and criticizing his economic management during his tenure. Bashir, however, took issue with the media response, particularly when Nigeria’s inflation rate was soaring at 33 percent.

In response, Hadiza questioned Bashir, asking if he would be making such remarks if his father were in the government. Bashir quickly replied, stating that his father, Nasir el-Rufai, would have resigned by now due to the administration’s failures and would have distanced himself from the government.
