Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reached an agreement on reciprocal rights, setting the stage for the resumption of Emirates Airlines' flights to Nigeria on October 3, 2024. Festus Keyamo, Nigeria's Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, led the discussions in the UAE, finalizing a new bilateral air service agreement (BASA) between both nations.

This agreement ensures that Nigerian airlines will soon have the opportunity to operate direct flights to the UAE, marking a significant milestone for Nigeria's aviation sector. The deal is expected to enhance international connectivity and promote economic growth through increased travel, business, and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Emirates had previously suspended operations in 2022 due to $85 million in trapped revenue, but the issues have since been resolved. Keyamo expressed confidence that the new agreement would foster a balanced partnership, strengthening ties and competitiveness in the global aviation market.
