Emmanuel Amuneke, former Nigeria and Barcelona winger, is set to return to coaching with NPFL club Heartland FC. Amuneke, who has vast coaching experience, aims to revive Heartland FC after their relegation last season.
Former Nigeria and Barcelona winger Emmanuel Amuneke is poised to return to coaching after a year-long hiatus. Amuneke, whose last stint was with Zambia’s Zanaco FC as both coach and consultant, is nearing a deal to become the head coach of Heartland FC in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
Amuneke previously applied for the Super Eagles head coach position but was overlooked in favor of Finidi George. Following Finidi's resignation due to Nigeria's poor performances against South Africa and Benin, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) plans to hire a foreign Technical Adviser for the team.
Reports from ScoreNigeria indicate that Amuneke has already secured the job with Heartland FC and is expected to be officially announced soon. He has been quietly working with the club and has started recruiting players for the upcoming season. Heartland FC, which was relegated last season after finishing 19th on the 20-team table, is reportedly looking to buy the NPFL slot of Beyond Limits. This team earned a promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL) but faces participation issues due to their affiliation with Remo Stars.
