Peter Obi has urged President Bola Tinubu to address the nation amid ongoing protests. Emphasizing direct leadership, Obi criticized the reliance on aides and clarified his location, debunking false claims of his presence at protests in Abuja. He also called for peaceful and lawful demonstrations.
Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the nation amidst ongoing protests. Speaking to an Arise TV correspondent in Onitsha, Obi emphasized the importance of presidential leadership during crises, urging Tinubu to communicate directly with Nigerians rather than relying on aides or appointees.
Obi's appeal comes in response to recent protests across Nigeria, which have seen varying levels of unrest. While the demonstrations in the southern regions have been largely peaceful, those in the northern parts of the country have experienced violence. Obi highlighted the need for Tinubu to take a personal stance and provide reassurance to the public during these turbulent times.
Addressing recent rumors, Obi clarified that videos circulating of him speaking to protesters in Abuja were inaccurate, as he had been in Onitsha since Wednesday. He stressed that his presence in Onitsha made it impossible for him to be in Abuja simultaneously.
Furthermore, Obi urged protesters to adhere to legal boundaries while voicing their demands. He emphasized that maintaining lawful conduct is crucial, even when protests are driven by strong grievances. His statements reflect a broader call for peaceful and lawful expression of dissent in Nigeria.
