Nyesom Wike, FCT Minister, revealed that security agencies have identified a senator sponsoring the #EndBadGovernance protest against President Tinubu's administration. The senator allegedly coordinated food deliveries for protesters, leading to potential questioning by authorities. Wike emphasized respecting court orders restricting protests to the MKO Abiola National Stadium.
Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), revealed that security agencies have identified a senator as a sponsor of the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest against President Bola Tinubu's administration. Following an emergency FCT Security Council meeting on Thursday night in Abuja, Wike disclosed that the senator had coordinated with security operatives to escort a truckload of food to support the protesters.
Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State, emphasized that while protests are a democratic right, participants must adhere to the court order restricting their activities to the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. He expressed concerns over some protesters attempting to move towards Eagle Square, suggesting that miscreants might aim to cause property damage and potential loss of life. Wike assured that security agencies would prevent such outcomes.
He further stated, "We have intelligence that a senator has been involved in providing food for the protesters, which constitutes sponsorship. At the appropriate time, security agencies will invite the senator for questioning to understand the extent of their involvement in these activities against the current government."
Wike underscored the importance of maintaining order and respecting judicial decisions, urging protesters to confine their activities to designated areas. This development highlights the tension between the government's efforts to manage protests and the activists' determination to express their grievances.
