Organizers of the #EndBadGovernance protests have disowned human rights lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, stating that he no longer represents them. Despite Adegboruwa's attempts to seek protection for the protesters and his plea to suspend the rallies due to potential infiltration by malicious elements, the protests will continue until the Federal Government meets their demands.
Damilare Adenola, Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, emphasized that the protests, which entered their second day on Friday, are driven by economic hardship and hunger, not by any individual sponsorship. He clarified that Adegboruwa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, is not their lawyer and does not speak for them. Adenola stressed that the protests might extend beyond the planned 10 days if the government fails to respond appropriately.
The protests have already seen police dispersing demonstrators with tear gas, and some states have imposed curfews to curb violence and looting. Protesters demand the restoration of petrol subsidies, addressing food shortages, reducing unemployment, and cutting government waste. They also call for reforms of the Electoral Commission INEC and the anti-graft agency EFCC, along with a more vigorous fight against corruption.
