Nollywood actress Toke Makinwa has criticized those using Nigeria's nationwide protest as an excuse to loot and vandalize. She condemned the destruction of property, emphasizing that the looters are also Nigerians suffering under the same hardships. Her comments sparked debate online, highlighting concerns over the misuse of protests.

Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has condemned those exploiting the ongoing nationwide protest to loot and vandalize properties. On Thursday, many Nigerians took to the streets to demonstrate against the severe hardship in the country. However, some hoodlums used the opportunity to loot government and private properties.

Reacting on her X handle, Makinwa stated that destroying and stealing from fellow Nigerians enduring the same struggles is unacceptable. She emphasized that her criticism was not directed at the peaceful protesters but at the opportunistic criminals causing harm. "Destroying properties and stealing from your fellow Nigerians who are passing through the same hardship is not right at all. This is very sad," she wrote. In response to a critic, Makinwa clarified, “I did not say the stealing and vandalism was done by protesters. The people who have their things stolen are Nigerians too, going through the same hardship. What have they done to deserve this?”

Her comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with some supporting her stance and others criticizing her for allegedly being disconnected from the realities of ordinary Nigerians.
