In a controversial outburst, Victor Osimhen criticizes Finidi George on social media, sparking backlash and calls for disciplinary action from Nigerian football figures. Enugu Rangers' coach Fidelis Ilechukwu condemns Osimhen's remarks, urging humility and an apology.

Enugu Rangers’ head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has condemned Victor Osimhen for his disparaging comments towards Finidi George on social media.

The backlash arose after the Napoli star reacted to allegations of insufficient commitment to Nigeria’s national team, spurred by purported remarks attributed to George stating, “I can’t beg Osimhen to play for Nigeria.” Osimhen publicly criticized Finidi George, questioning his credibility and competence, which ignited controversy within Nigerian football circles.

This incident has sparked widespread debate and criticism, with former internationals such as Idah Peterside and Victor Anichebe calling for disciplinary action against Osimhen.

Adding to the chorus of disapproval is Fidelis Ilechukwu, who recently guided Enugu Rangers to victory in the Nigeria Premier Football League. Ilechukwu lambasted Osimhen for his disrespectful behavior towards Finidi George, asserting that as a prominent player and the reigning CAF Player of the Year, Osimhen should exhibit patience and humility in addressing criticism, even when faced with public scrutiny.

In an interview with Brila FM, Ilechukwu expressed his disappointment over Osimhen’s conduct, stating, “Osimhen is nobody to disrespect Finidi.

As the African best player and one of our finest, he should learn to be patient and explain himself, even under criticism. He needs to apologize because an apology demonstrates humility. It's not acceptable to behave as though he is beyond reproach.

The coach further emphasized the need for the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to take decisive action against such behavior.

Despite the clarification that Finidi George’s alleged statement was false, Osimhen has not issued any response or apology.
