Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has unveiled plans to purchase four aircraft for the state's airline, Enugu Air, to expand its services. This initiative is part of the state's 2025 budget, which allocates over N41 billion to enhance the airline’s fleet. During the presentation of the 2025 budget to the Enugu State House of Assembly, Mbah reiterated his vision of transforming the state into a key commercial hub in Nigeria.
The total proposed budget is N971 billion, with N837.9 billion dedicated to capital expenditure, making up 86% of the total. Key infrastructure projects, including the concession of Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the development of an international cargo terminal, are also highlighted. In addition to the expansion of aviation, Mbah’s administration plans to introduce a modern taxi scheme to improve urban and inter-urban transport.
The budget continues the administration’s focus on education, with N320.6 billion earmarked for the sector. Mbah also reported a significant increase in the state’s internally generated revenue, growing by 286% from N37.4 billion in 2023 to N144.7 billion in 2024.
Despite economic challenges nationwide, Mbah remains committed to driving Enugu’s economic growth and positioning it among the top three states in terms of GDP.
