The European Court of Justice declared that UEFA and FIFA's attempts to impede the formation of the Super League violated EU law.
The court specifically criticized FIFA and UEFA rules that demanded their prior approval for any new interclub football project, including the Super League, and prohibited clubs and players from participating in such competitions.
While the ruling does not automatically authorize the Super League project, it underscores that FIFA and UEFA have been "abusing a dominant position" in the football market. A22 Sports, the company behind the Super League, celebrated the decision, claiming victory and heralding the end of the "UEFA monopoly" in a social media post by CEO Bernd Reichart.
