A Niger State court sentenced 44-year-old ex-convict Abdulmutalib Abdullahi to two years in prison for theft, just a month after his release for a similar crime. He was found guilty of trespassing, intimidation, and theft, with the court ruling that he posed a continued threat to society.

A 44-year-old ex-convict, Abdulmutalib Abdullahi, has been sentenced to two years in prison just a month after completing a previous jail term for a similar offense. A Magistrate’s Court in Bosso, Niger State, found him guilty of trespassing, intimidation, and theft.

Abdullahi was arrested after breaking into the residence of Mohammed Mohammed Shaba, where he stole valuable items, including an HP laptop, a Samsung Galaxy phone, and other gadgets. The police, in their report, confirmed that he had been released from prison in January 2025 but quickly returned to criminal activities.

During the hearing, the police prosecutor, Sgt. Angela Jah explained that his actions violated sections 288, 349, and 397 of the Penal Code. The court heard that Abdullahi showed no remorse and pleaded guilty to all charges.

Presiding Magistrate Evelyn Auta, in her ruling, emphasized that the defendant was a repeat offender and posed a continued threat to society. She stated that given his history of crime, keeping him in a correctional facility was necessary for public safety.

Consequently, Abdullahi was sentenced to two years in prison with no option of a fine.
