President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ayodeji Ariyo Gbeleyi as the new Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE). Gbeleyi, an accomplished financial expert, is expected to leverage his extensive experience to enhance the BPE's capacity, promote economic reforms, and ensure the efficient deployment of public resources.
President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Ayodeji Ariyo Gbeleyi as the new Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE). This announcement was made by Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale on Saturday. Gbeleyi, a seasoned financial expert and award-winning chartered accountant, is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
Gbeleyi's impressive academic credentials include participation in executive programs at the London Business School, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and Lagos Business School. With over three decades of experience, he has worked in diverse sectors such as manufacturing, FMCG, investment and commercial banking, project finance, telecommunications, infrastructure, and public administration.
Notably, Gbeleyi has served as the Board Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and was the Lagos State Commissioner of Finance from 2013 to 2015. President Tinubu expects Gbeleyi to leverage his extensive experience to enhance the BPE's role as a national resource center for capacity building.
The new Director-General is tasked with promoting a competitive private sector-driven economy, ensuring social accountability, and optimizing the use of public resources. Additionally, he is expected to advance effective corporate governance and fiduciary discipline in both the public and private sectors. Gbeleyi's appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the agency's capacity and drive economic reforms.
