A tragic incident occurred at a funfair in Ibadan, where 35 children lost their lives in a stampede. The event, organized by Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the ex-queen of the Ooni of Ife, and broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat, was initially planned for 5,000 children, but over 7,500 attended. The overcrowding led to chaos, with six others injured and rushed to the hospital.

Following the incident, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, took over the investigation, with eight people arrested in connection. Naomi, who was detained, reportedly collapsed and was hospitalized for treatment. Authorities have also shut down Agidigbo FM, which was involved in hosting the event.

The Oyo State Government has condemned the tragedy, with Governor Seyi Makinde canceling his birthday celebrations to honor the victims. He urged for stringent safety measures at future events. The government is also covering medical expenses for the injured children.

The incident has sparked widespread mourning, with the South-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party and former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi offering condolences and calling for better safety practices at public events. The families of the victims are in mourning, and authorities are investigating the causes of the stampede to ensure justice is served.
