Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has criticized the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for their approach in searching for a new coach for the national team. Oliseh compared the NFF's public call for applications to Liverpool FC's discreet search for Jurgen Klopp's replacement, emphasizing the need for a tailored approach. Despite Oliseh's reservations, over 50 coaches, both indigenous and foreign, applied for the Super Eagles job.
However, Oliseh clarified that he did not apply for the position and advocated for the appointment of indigenous coaches like Finidi George or Emmanuel Amunike. He argued that Nigeria possesses capable homegrown tacticians and emphasized the success of local coaches in leading African teams to victory.
Oliseh's remarks reflect his stance against hiring foreign coaches for the Super Eagles, advocating instead for the promotion of indigenous talent in Nigerian football management.
