The Digest:

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed 18 warehouses in Bida, Niger State, following the discovery of expired food and beverage products valued at over N100 million. Acting on credible intelligence, the investigation and enforcement team uncovered large quantities of expired items, including about 80,000 packets of non-alcoholic drinks, 5,000 packets of dairy milk, 16,000 packets of bottled water, and 28 cartons of pasta. The warehouses, located near Ndazabo White House along Minna road and behind Bida Modern market, were linked to BY Ventures. Managers were arrested, and subsequent searches at the company's supermarkets in Minna uncovered additional expired products and counterfeit Goya oil. Managing Director Yusuf Nadabo admitted ownership of the expired products during interrogation. Investigations are ongoing, with appropriate regulatory sanctions to follow.

Key Points:
  • The seizure protects unsuspecting consumers from the potential health hazards of expired products.
  • It sends a strong deterrent message to distributors of substandard and expired goods.
  • Consumers avoid poisoning, while the offending company faces regulatory sanctions.
  • This signals NAFDAC's commitment to enforcing food safety standards.
  • The timing, with admission of ownership, strengthens the prosecution's case.

NAFDAC seals 18 Niger State warehouses holding N100m expired products, arrests managers, and extends operation to linked supermarkets in Minna.
