Former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili has reflected on her recent confrontation with Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, stating that the incident highlights the broader struggles women face in a patriarchal society. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Ezekwesili emphasized that the verbal clash during a Senate Committee session exposed deep-rooted biases against women, particularly those who demand accountability from public officials.

The tense exchange occurred during a hearing on sexual harassment allegations involving suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Ezekwesili accused the committee of suppressing voices advocating for justice, arguing that institutions meant to protect citizens should not silence dissenting opinions.

She further criticized the Senate’s handling of the issue, calling it a distraction from the real concern—ensuring justice for Akpoti-Uduaghan. Supporting her stance, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawyer, Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, condemned the committee’s conduct, labeling it as dismissive and biased.
