The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed 150 shops at Eziukwu Market in Aba, Abia State, following the discovery of counterfeit and expired products worth ₦5 billion. The two-day operation, conducted on December 16 and 17, uncovered fake beverages, revalidated food items like noodles and powdered milk, and expired vegetable oils. The market has been identified as a hub for the production and distribution of substandard goods.
NAFDAC's Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, reiterated the agency's commitment to eradicating counterfeit products to safeguard public health. South-East Zone Director, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, expressed disappointment, noting that market leaders had previously pledged to combat illegal activities but failed to uphold their promise.
