United Airlines flight UA613 made an emergency landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after departing for Washington. Out of 245 passengers and 11 crew, six sustained serious injuries, with 32 others suffering minor injuries. The aircraft, however, did not incur major damage, and all passengers disembarked safely.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) provided an update on the emergency landing of United Airlines flight UA613 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. The Boeing 787-8, en route from Lagos to Washington, made an air return early Friday morning and landed safely after taking off on Thursday night.
On board the flight were 245 passengers and 11 crew members. While all passengers and crew members disembarked without incident, six people, including four passengers and two crew members, suffered serious injuries. Additionally, 27 passengers and five crew members sustained minor injuries.
FAAN's director of public affairs, Obiageli Orah, confirmed that the rescue operation was swift, with teams from Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, Aviation Medical, and Aviation Security already on standby. The injured passengers were promptly transported to medical facilities, with those suffering from minor injuries receiving first aid before being discharged. More serious cases were taken to the Duchess Hospital in Ikeja for further treatment.
Though the incident caused injuries, the aircraft did not sustain significant damage, and passengers with minor injuries were accommodated in a hotel. FAAN continues to monitor the situation and provide updates.
