Rapper Falz the Bahd Guy is stranded by the NLC nationwide strike after a weekend trip but voices support for labor's demand to raise the minimum wage.
Nigerian rapper and actor Falz the Bahd Guy has found himself caught up in the nationwide strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). The entertainer, whose real name is Folarin Falana, was traveling back to Lagos from Uyo, Akwa Ibom state when he learned the airport had been shut down due to the industrial action.
"I'm supposed to be in Lagos for some business, but I'm stuck here because of the strike," Falz said in a video posted on social media. Despite the travel disruption, the "Bop Daddy" crooner voiced his support for the NLC's demands for an increase in the minimum wage from N30,000 to N64,000.
"The reason why they are striking is valid," Falz stated, adding in Yoruba that the government is being irresponsible. The strike, which began on June 3, has paralyzed government operations and commercial activities across Nigeria.
Falz had been in Uyo over the weekend to participate in a charity football match hosted by Super Eagles player Troost Ekong. His return to Lagos was disrupted by the NLC's industrial action seeking to force the government's hand on improving wages for workers.
While inconvenienced, Falz expressed understanding for the unions' position, lambasting the authorities for failing to meet reasonable labor demands. His comments reflect wider public frustration over the strike's impacts but also sympathy for the NLC's cause.
