A fatal accident occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos involving a J5 Ford bus and a Mercedes truck. One person died, and five were hospitalized. LASTMA led the rescue operation, with emergency teams aiding the survivors. The crash was caused by brake failure on the bus.

A tragic accident occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos earlier today, involving a J5 Ford bus (FKJ 724 YC) and a Mercedes truck (FKJ 746 YC) at Ilubirin, heading toward Sura. The crash resulted in one fatality and left five individuals injured.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the rescue operation was swiftly launched at the scene. The involved J5 Ford bus, which was transporting perishable goods, reportedly suffered a brake failure while traveling at high speed. This caused it to crash into the Mercedes truck.

Despite the severity of the accident, LASTMA, aided by bystanders, managed to extricate four victims from the wreckage. Three of them were rescued alive, but tragically, one person succumbed to their injuries.

In response to the situation, emergency teams from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian Police Force, and LASAMBUS worked collaboratively with LASTMA. The survivors were quickly transported to the General Hospital on Lagos Island for urgent medical care.

The recovery efforts also saw the removal of wrecked vehicles and spilled perishable goods to restore traffic flow along the bridge. This coordinated effort allowed for the swift clearance of the scene, ensuring the safety of other motorists.

The cause of the crash has been attributed to the brake failure of the J5 Ford bus, which led to the deadly collision.
