Lagos court has sentenced a 34-year-old businessman to life in prison for sexually assaulting his young daughter. The man, identified as Oluwafemi Asekeji, was found guilty of raping his 12-year-old child in June 2020.

According to testimony, Asekeji instructed the girl to undress and lie on a bed before assaulting her. He reportedly filmed the act and threatened to share the video if she told anyone. The victim said her father had been abusing her for some time but she kept quiet due to his threats.

Key witnesses included Asekeji's parents and brother, with whom the child lived. The grandmother discovered something was amiss after questioning the girl. A medical examination confirmed the abuse had occurred.

Despite pleading not guilty, Asekeji was convicted based on victim testimony, witness accounts, and medical evidence. The judge, Justice Abiola Soladoye, declared the crime "against the law of nature" and a case of incest.

In addition to the life sentence, Asekeji's name will be added to Lagos State's Sex Offender Registry. The judge emphasized that the prosecution had proven all elements of the rape charge beyond doubt.
