A suspected bomb explosion occurred on January 6, 2025, at the Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin, within the Bwari Area Council of the FCT. The incident, reported around 11:00 AM, prompted a swift response from the FCT Police Command, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and the Kubwa Area Commander.
Preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina had visited the school owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, carrying an improvised explosive device (IED). Tragically, two of them died on the school’s veranda while tampering with the device, causing the explosion. A third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are receiving treatment under police guard.
The FCT Bomb Squad has confirmed the explosion was caused by an IED, with device remnants recovered from the scene. Authorities have detained Mallam Adamu Ashimu for questioning as investigations continue. Victims of the explosion were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or objects to the police.
